We Are Scientists - WITH THE GIANT TOUR BUS!
We Are Scientists had the honor to headline the Eating Pebble gig @ Tivoli in Utrecht.
We Are Scientists is a three man band consisting of Keith Murray (song and guitar),
Michael Tapper (drums) and Chris Cain (bass). They are a New York based
indie rock band with a style that is very genuine and simple.
The simplicity is a phenomenon that I have been quite fascinated by lately. It demands more from every individual in the band but the result is a easier way to achieve a distinct red line and a more direct feeling in the songs or albums. This phenomenon is quite rare but some have succeded. The White Stripes, Johnossi and Eagles of Death Metal to name a few.
We Are Scientists performances are immensely entertaining because of the way they embed their open-mindedness and humour together with great musicianship.
It was late afternoon when I stepped out of the car at a gas station in a
country with weird traffic signs and people speaking gibberish. It was
the Netherlands. I took a stroll to Tivoli which was just two hundred
metres away. The first thing I saw was a big black addition to the
building. Soon I found it to be We Are Scientists tour bus as I got
closer.
I met up with Eating Pebble and helped them load off junk from their
truck. After this me and my "entourage" (not Eating Pebble) had a few
hours to kill before the show so we decided to track down a coffee shop and a hostel. We found both, and the only person who was eligible to smoke (non-driver) bought weed with his last money. He had a most pleasant evening.
The mood was in perfect harmony just as they ascended on stage and each one of their untroubled characteristics made it look so ridiculously easy to play on those instruments. A completely acceptable performance for a band who get the chance to headline an Eating Pebble concert.
